Camping:

Moosemaple Campground at Mackville Pond, Hardwick:
A Permaculture Paradise in the making.
Perry Heller, 802-472-1727

Welcome to Moosemaple Campground. We are located in the heart of Hardwick, just across the street from the Mackville Pond Recreation Area. For decades, this campground served as an RV campground, and it has recently been acquired by Perry Heller, who's designing a new vision for the land. Heller is implementing plans to convert this once packed earth parking lot into a Permaculture paradise, complete with a vision for an Edible Forest Garden, Outdoor Solar Shower, and Mouldering/Composting Toilets. Due to the nature of the renovation and construction aspects of this soon-to-be-more-beautiful land, it is not "officially" open to the public. However, there is ample land and forest available to pitch many tents on for special groups, friends of Perry, and friends of friends.

Cost: $10/overnight stay per person, or...
work/trade in exchange for 1 hour of help/day on the land. Various projects include: sheet mulching, gathering leaves in the forest, gathering wood, cutting wood, preparing food, cleaning up the land, washing dishes, light construction, hammering nails, unhammering nails, moving stones, digging holes, and more. $10 fee is required at time of arrival.

Amenities: running water, sometimes a shower (if the sun's out!), a nearby pond to swim in, lots of campfire wood (free), woods to hike in, accessible VASA Trail, a sense of community, friendliness, and happiness. The campground is 1.4 miles from the center of town which makes for an easy and relaxing bicycle ride or walk to the Buffalo Mountain Food Coop, Claires Restaurant, Post Office, Village Restaurant, Chinese Food, Morning Glory Essentials Crystal and Stone Shop, and the Galaxy Book Shop.

It is a BYOT (Bring Your Own Tent) campground. Plenty of ample parking. Looking forward to seeing all of the new faces this 2010 season. Depending on the size of the trailer, we may have one or two spaces for an RV or tagalong (5th wheel) trailers.

For reservations and questions, call Perry Heller at 802-472-1727. If there is no answer please be sure to leave a message with your name, contact info, and dates you wish to stay.
